Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
With the rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, their potential applications in microbiological research, education, and academic dissemination have become increasingly significant. To regulate the use of generative AI in the editorial process, academic exchanges, and scientific innovation of Microbiology China, and to ensure academic integrity, data security, and ethical compliance, this policy is hereby established. It aims to promote the deep integration of AI technology with the field of microbiology.
This policy covers the use of generative AI in various aspects of scholarly work, including manuscript preparation, data processing, image generation, literature review, and academic commentary. The specific requirements for using AI are as follows:
(1) Authorship and Core Contributions
No AI or AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT) may replace the core research responsibilities of the authors, such as study conception, experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation. AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author of any manuscript. The authors bear full responsibility for the originality, authenticity, and academic integrity of the published work.
(2) Disclosure and Acknowledgment
If AI technologies or related tools are used during the creation of the manuscript, authors must provide a clear disclosure in the "Methods" section (for technical assistance) or the "Acknowledgments" section (for auxiliary tasks such as language polishing). The disclosure should specify the name and version of the AI tool used, the manner of its use, and the scope of its application, ensuring transparency in the research process.
(3) Citation Guidelines
Content generated primarily by AI tools cannot be cited as formal references in the bibliography. If such content must be mentioned due to essential academic discussion, authors should provide a detailed discussion within the main text and place the source in a footnote or an appendix, rather than in the standard reference list.
This policy will be updated periodically in accordance with technological developments and practical experiences. Authors are advised to consult the latest version available on our official website before submission.
