Microbiology is a compulsory course and a core professional course for brewing engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology and other majors. To meet the teaching goal of cultivating innovative talents with scientific inquiry ability, the teaching team has deeply reformed the course of Microbiology and built a first-class undergraduate course. The team comprehensively improved students' scientific inquiry ability through implementing the concept of student-centered teaching and scientific research back-feeding teaching, exploring the educating value of the curriculum, carrying out the ideological and political education, building a full set of online teaching resources at Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), constructing the teaching mode of foundation consolidation-training of problem analyzing and solving ability-symposium, improving students' learning mode, reforming the system for evaluating the learning process, and guiding students to participate in the science and technology innovation competition. This practice could foster innovative talents with scientific inquiry ability for the society and provide reference for constructing first-class courses in engineering colleges and universities.
