Microbiome of medicinal plants and its effect on medicinal plant secondary metabolites:a review

Abstract:

Medicinal plants are important raw materials for Chinese medicine industry. The yield and quality of medicinal plants are affected by diverse factors such as heredity and growth environment. Plant microbiome has attracted increasing attention for its positive role in the growth, development, and secondary metabolites accumulation of host plants and the related studies have been reviewed in detail except the works around the microbiomes of medicinal plants. In this paper, we summarized the microbiome diversity of medicinal plants and their effects on the secondary metabolites of medicinal plants since 2010. Furthermore, we discussed the potential application of microbiome in the quality improvement and ecological cultivation of medicinal plants.
