Problem based learning (PBL) is a new problem-based and student-centered teaching method. In order to improve the teaching quality, we adopted this method in the reform of Fermentation Engineering teaching. The teaching effects were analyzed by final examination and self-evaluation investigation questionnaire. The results showed that PBL teaching method did have a large impact on stimulating students’ learning interesting, and improving the ability of self-study, the ability of research and creative talents, which brings good teaching effects. PBL teaching method could effectively improve the teaching quality, and had a certain value to popularize.
