    Abstract:

[Objective] To differentiate two strains of Escherichia coli from different sources by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). [Methods] FT-IR fingerprint absorption spectra of two strains of E. coli from different sources were collected and analyzed by chemometric methods. [Results] Two cluster models of principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were established and could differentiate well the two strains of E. coli. [Conclusion] As a rapid, easy-to-use and accurate technique, FT-IR spectroscopy can be used to differentiate microorganisms at the strain level from different sources.
