A new fungus, designated GC2-2, which produced thermostable alkaline cellulase was isolated from deadwood soil. GC2-2 was identified as Cladosporium sp. by morphological characteristics as well as by analysis of the gene encoding the 18S rRNA. Cladosporium sp. GC2-2 produced cellulase enzyme. The enzyme activity on filter paper was higher than that on CMC. The optimal conditions for the enzymatic reaction were about 35 °C and at pH 7.5.
