    Abstract:

γ-Hexachlorocyclohexane (γ-HCH) is an organochlorine insecticide,it has been listed recalcitrant worldwide pollutant due to its toxicity, environmental persistence. Microorganisms capable of degrading γ-HCH have been isolated, several genes encoding the enzymes involved in the degradation of γ-HCH have been cloned and characterized. In this article, we summarized the current progress regarding γ-HCH biodegradation, with emphasis on the diversity of microorganisms degrading γ-HCH, the biodegradative pathway and relevant genes and enzymes.
