My research road and experience on anaerobes

Abstract:

Anaerobic microorganisms, particularly methanogens, are widely distributed in the anoxic environments of earth. They have diverse metabolic potentials, and play indispensable roles in earth materials cycle and maintaining environmental and human healthy. Anaerobes are not only the main species in human intestinal microbiome, but also are the players converting organic waster to bioenergy, methane. I have been engaged in anaerobes especially in methanogenic archaea for more than 30 years, and would like to share my experience and lessons in the research on anaerobes with the young microbiologists at the time of the 50^th anniversary of Microbiology China.
