In order to cultivate backup outstanding engineers with the abilities of process optimization, technological innovation and conformation to the demand of fermentation industry, reform in teaching methods of bioengineering specialty curricula was carried out and experimental teaching contents and extracurricular professional contests were developed to improve students’ practical and innovative abilities. By these measures, good results have been gained, showing that students’ interest in the bioengineering has been enhanced and the abilities of fermentation process optimization and innovation have been improved.
