A filamentous fungus F02Z2172 which is able to produce ophiobolins was isolated from Wuyishan Nature Reserve in Fujian province. The strain was identified as Aspergillus pseudodeflectus by cultural and morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis based on ITS rDNA, Calmodulin and β-tubulin sequences. The relation between A. pseudodeflectus and other species of Aspergillus Section Usti was also discussed. This was the first report of ophiobolins produced by A. pseudodeflectus.
