Abstract:Veterinary Microbiology is a professional basic course offered by the College of Animal Science and Technology & College of Veterinary Medicine of Jilin Agricultural University, with a total of 64 class hours. The conventional teaching of this course has the drawbacks including fragmented teaching contents, a single experimental mode, unclosed teaching processes, and a single evaluation method. In view of these drawbacks, we reformed the teaching of this course, with the aim of cultivating excellent veterinarians and the philosophy of understanding principles, appreciating wonders, clarifying mechanisms, and applying methods. Specifically, the reforms were carried out in four aspects: content restructure, three-stage experiments, closed-loop teaching, and process-based evaluation, deeply integrating ideological and political education with industrial demands. The reforms have significantly enhanced students’ professional identity as well as their innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities, and brought fruitful teaching achievements for teachers. The course has also been rated as a provincial-level demonstration course for integrating ideological and political education. In the future, we will continue to optimize the teaching system, further deepen the integration of industry and education, and facilitate the cultivation of outstanding veterinary talents.
